Whidden plates five in Saturday matinee
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Wisconsin softball team cruised to a 7-1 victory over Minnesota, securing its second consecutive Big Ten series win behind a five-RBI performance from sophomore Kaylie Whidden.
The Monument, Colo. native notched two extra base hits in a 2-for-3 showing, getting the scoring started in the second inning with a two-run blast to deep left field.
After the Badgers (27-17, 11-9) loaded the bases in the top half of the fourth, Whidden followed it up with a three-RBI double to make it 5-0. Pinch runner Ava Parent took advantage of a pair of wild pitches to plate Wisconsin's fourth run of the frame.Â
UW provided some insurance later on in the game, as junior Danielle Lucey barreled a single up the middle to extend the advantage in the sixth inning—leading 7-0 after five and a half innings of play.Â
Freshman Berritt Herr and sophomore Kendra Lewis limited the damage turned in by the Golden Gophers (15-32, 6-14 B1G) throughout the first six innings of the game. Lewis tallied a pair of strikeouts in four innings of middle relief, working around one run scored.
Left-hander Jordan Felci came on in the seventh and worked out of a jam—securing UW's second consecutive series victory over its rivals, and the first in Minneapolis since the 2016 season.Â

Batting Cleanup:
- Wisconsin earned its first series win over Minnesota in the Twin Cities since the 2016 season.Â
- The Badgers have won 11 Big Ten games, matching their total from 2025.Â
- UW's pitching staff has allowed one run over the past 15 innings of action.Â
- Kaylie Whidden extended her power surge at the plate this afternoon, going 2-for-3 with a home run, bases-clearing double and five RBI. The sophomore has recorded five RBIs in a single game for the second weekend in a row, becoming just the 11th Badger in program history to record two games with five RBIs in a career. Only five Badgers have done so in one season, as Whidden is the first to do so since fellow teammate Hilary Blomberg accomplished the feat in her freshman season.Â
- Hilary Blomberg earned her 50th career multi-hit game as a Badger in a 2-for-4 showing, good for the ninth-most in program history. The Verona, Wis. native has 19 on the year, which is tied for seventh with Kris Zachar (2005) and Chloe Miller (2019).Â
- Danielle Lucey rounded out the offensive standouts with a 1-for-2 showing, reaching base and scoring twice in the process. The junior recorded an RBI as well.Â
- Kendra Lewis earned her first Big Ten win of the year, throwing four innings of middle relief—striking out a pair.Â
