MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin softball team will hit the road for the final time in the regular season, traveling to Minnesota to face its rivals in a three-game series, set to start on Friday, April 24.Â
The Badgers (25-17, 9-9 B1G) and the Golden Gophers (15-30, 6-12 B1G) will kick off their weekend at 6:30 p.m. CT from Jane Sage Cowles Stadium on Friday night, followed up by a 1:00 p.m. CT first pitch for Saturday. The series will conclude on Sunday, April 26, scheduled to take place at 12:00 p.m. CT.Â
Each game over the weekend will be streamed on B1G+, as fans can follow along with live stats housed on uwbadgers.com.Â
Minnesota leads the all-time series over Wisconsin at 33-28. The Badgers took a three-game series over the Golden Gophers last season in Madison, as the two teams will battle for the fifth consecutive season.Â
UW is seeking its second consecutive conference series victory after taking two out of three from Michigan this past weekend. Head coach Yvette Healy enters the weekend one win away from No. 600 in her storied coaching career.Â
The Badgers have erased six-run deficits in three of their last five victories, including in the series finale against the Wolverines, where sophomore Kaylie Whidden capped off a dramatic 14-12 victory with a three-run walk-off home run.Â
It was more of the same for Wisconsin against St. Thomas in its midweek matchup, plating four unanswered runs to storm back and defeat the Tommies in game two, 4-3, after dropping the first game of the doubleheader, 3-0.
Sophomore Hannah Conger was the difference-maker on Tuesday, tallying her seventh multi-RBI game of the season with her walk-off single to plate two Badgers and secure a split versus St. Thomas. From the left side of the plate, sophomore Kendra Lewis recorded UW's other pair of RBI, blasting her third home run of the season to spark the late rally at Goodman Diamond.Â
After missing part of the weekend against Michigan, redshirt freshman Jaclyn Showalter provided a strong showing in game one against St. Thomas—recording a career-best three hits in a single game, including a double.Â
UW's pitching staff has earned five saves over the course of the season, tied with the 2019 unit for the most in a single season. Lewis notched the fifth one versus Michigan on Saturday, joining freshman Berritt Herr with two saves on the year. Entering this season, only two pitchers in Badger history recorded two or more saves in the same year, as Letty Oliveraz and Leah Vanevenhoven did so back in 2007.Â
Up Next: The Badgers will prepare for their final regular season series of the year, welcoming Rutgers to Goodman Diamond for three games, set to start on Friday, May 1 at 5:00 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed on B1G+.
