John Graves is in his fifth season in strength and conditioning with the Wisconsin football program, and his second as assistant director of strength and conditioning, in 2022.

Graves previously worked as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Washington State for four seasons.

Prior to his time with the Cougars, Graves spent two seasons at his alma mater, Virginia Tech, as a football strength and conditioning assistant coach.

Graves was a four-year letterwinner for the Hokies at defensive tackle, earning second-team All-ACC honors as a senior in 2010, when he also was voted a team captain. During his time at Virginia Tech, he was part of three ACC championship teams and was a three-time NSCA All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year honoree.

Graves was a member of the Houston Texans in 2010 and the Seattle Seahawks in 2010-11.

Graves earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology from Virginia Tech in 2010. The Richmond, Virginia, native is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA and holds USAW Level I and Function Movement Screening Level 1 certifications.

Graves and his wife, Sam, have a dog, Cosmo.
