Shaun Snee is in his eighth season with the Wisconsin football program in 2022, and his second as Director of Football Strength and Conditioning.

Prior to being named director in February 2021, Snee spent six seasons as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Badgers. Beyond his core strength and conditioning role, Snee’s responsibilities included overseeing the team’s nutrition program, leading sports science initiatives like the use of Catapult GPS software, managing injured players’ return-to-play progressions and serving as the strength program’s internship coordinator.

Prior to joining the UW staff, Snee spent 2014 in the same role at UMass, where he worked with the football, men’s hockey, women’s basketball, men’s lacrosse, women’s soccer, diving and field hockey teams and was head strength and conditioning coach for the baseball program.

During the 2012 and 2013 seasons, he was a strength and conditioning graduate assistant at Pittsburgh under current UW head coach Paul Chryst. Snee studied dietetics during his first year at Pitt.

Snee participated in several academic internships while an undergraduate student in exercise science at East Stroudsburg University, including coaching at a private facility that trained special needs youth powerlifting in 2011 and working with the NC State football program in the summer of 2010.

He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA, Certified Sports Nutritionist through the ISSN, USAW Level I Sports Performance Coach and also holds National Association for Speed & Explosion, Functional Movement Screening Level 1 and Reflexive Performance Reset Level 1 certifications.

Snee is a Montrose, Pennsylvania, native whose interest in strength and conditioning began in high school under the direction of his brothers, Dan and Chris. Dan played fullback at Lycoming College, while Chris is a two-time Super Bowl champion and four-time Pro Bowl selection who played 10 seasons on the New York Giants’ offensive line.

An accident in junior high led to complications that drove Snee’s passion in the field, including his interest in kinesiology and involvement in powerlifting and strongman events. He is a member of the United States Strongman.

Snee graduated magna cum laude with a master’s degree in exercise science from California University of Pennsylvania in 2014 and is currently pursuing his PhD in health and human performance.

Snee and his wife, Sarah, have a daughter, Maeve, and a son, Mason.
