John Schaefer is in his seventh year as video coordinator with the Wisconsin football program in 2019, overseeing the team's video and technology efforts.
Schaefer leads a staff responsible for filming, editing and maintaining archives of the Badgers' practices and games while also providing produced video content to meet the needs of coaches and recruiting staff. Â
For 2018-19, Schaefer was voted Big Ten Conference Video Coordinator of the Year by his colleagues and named a finalist for the Bob Matey National Video Coordinator of the Year presented by the Collegiate Sports Video Association.
Schaefer joined the Badgers in 2013 after spending three years on the football video staff at Western Michigan, including spending the 2012 season as the Broncos' head video coordinator.Â
All told, Schaefer spent six seasons in Kalamazoo. He worked as a student assistant coach with the Broncos' offensive line from 2007-09 before transitioning to the video staff.
A native of Mount Clemens, Michigan, Schaefer earned a degree in mathematics with a minor in communications from Western Michigan in 2011.
