Maverick Darling, a five-time All-American at UW, is in his second season as a volunteer assistant cross country and track and field coach at the University of Wisconsin.

During his time running for the Badgers, Darling helped the program win its fifth NCAA men's cross country title in 2011. The Ovid, Michigan, native was a two-time All-American in cross country and and helped the team win four Big Ten titles and four NCAA Great Lakes Regionals. The 2009 Big Ten Cross Country Freshman of the Year, Darling's best individual finish on the NCAA stage came in 2012 when he finished 11th overall and second for Wisconsin. 

On the track, Darling was a three-time All-American as he capped off his career racing for the Cardinal and White with a fourth-place finish in the 5000 meters at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships. He also won the 10,000 meters his senior year at the 2013 Big Ten championships and earned All-America honors in the indoor 5000 meters at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships. 

As a prep, Darling was a three-time Michigan state cross country champion, a four-time all-state honoree and Michigan's Gatorade Cross Country Runner of the Year. He finished third at the 2007 Foot Locker Midwest Regional and 10th at the Footlocker National Championship the same year in 15:23. He also was an accomplished athlete on the track, earning All-America honors in the two mile at the Nike Outdoor Nationals meet in 2008 and was a four-time Michigan state champion in track.Â
