Biography
2017-18 (Senior): Coxed the varsity eight for the duration of the season... led the Badgers to a 15th place finish at the Head of the Charles meet in October... helped the Badgers' first eight to victories over Stanford and Oregon State at the Stanford Invitational (4/7)... raced for the Jablonic/Cochrane and Congram cups vs. BU/MIT and Northeastern, respectively... led UW to a fifth-place finish in the petite finals of the Eastern Sprints in May... helped the first eight to a sixth-place finish in the petite finals of the IRA National Championships in June... led the eights to a fourth-place finish at the Princeton Chase.. also coxed the first four to a second-place finish at the Princeton Chase
2016-17 (Junior): Guided the varsity eight to a victory at the Minnesota/MSOE Dual in 6 minutes, 11.6 seconds … also led a four to first place against Minnesota and MSOE … led the third varsity eight at the Congram Cup, placing second … coxed the fourth varsity eight to a first place petite final finish at the Eastern Sprints in May … led a four during the fall season, placing 11th at Head of the Charles and ninth at the Princeton Chase
2015-16 (Sophomore):Â Coxed the lightweight varsity four that placed sixth at the IRA National Championships in June...led the varsity four to a second place finish against Minnesota and MSOE, posting the fastest time (6 minutes, 46 seconds) by a UW four during the season... also coxed the varsity four to a fourth place finish at the Devil's Lake Dual in April... raced with an open four and open eight at Head of the Eagle in October.
2014-15 (Freshman): Navigated the freshmen eight as coxswain to a second place finish at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships and second place at the EARC Sprints as well as competing at the Devil’s Lake Challenge and Stanford Invitational…coxed the lightweight varsity four that defeated MSOE at the Devil’s Lake Challenge…led the second freshmen eight as the coxswain at the National Championships and a second place finish at the Head of Huron, which included Illinois, Michigan and Michigan State.Â
Personal: Parents are Andrew and Elizabeth Van Beek … has one sister, Emily … major is business.
High School: Graduated from St. Paul’s School for Boys … participated in cross country for four years … four year letter winner in swimming … four year letter winner in rowing.
