Cauli Bedran joined the Wisconsin coaching staff in 2023 as an assistant coach.
In his first season with team, Bedran aided the men's and women's teams to Big Ten fourth place finishes.

Bedran comes to Wisconsin after spending the last two years as an assistant coach for Michigan swimming and diving program. He joined the UM staff in July 2018 as a volunteer assistant coach.
“I am thrilled for the opportunity to join the Badgers swimming and diving staff,” Bedran said. “Over the past 13 years of coaching across multiple levels, I have been dedicated to helping young men and women reach their full potential in the water, and more importantly, in their lives.
“I cannot wait to get to work and continue to build on the successes of this elite program. I feel very fortunate to represent such an incredible institution like UW Madison! I am excited for this season and for the ones to come. My wife Lauren, and my kids, Mila, Cohen and Lenna are looking forward to this next chapter of our lives. On Wisconsin!”
In 2021-22, he aided the Wolverine women’s team to a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championships. He helped coach Olympian Maggie MacNeil to three Big Ten championships and third-place finishes in the 50 free and 100 butterfly at the NCAA championships. MacNeil also earned a gold medal and set a world record in the 50 backstroke at the a2022 Short Course World Championships.
For the Michigan men, Bedran coached Gal Groumi to two school records, All-America honors and a Big Ten championship in the 200 individual medley.
In his three seasons as a volunteer assistant coach, he helped the Michigan men to the 2020 and 2021 Big Ten championships as well as a third-place finish for the Wolverine women at the 2019 NCAA Championships.
In 2019, Bedran served as a coach with Team Brazil at the World University Games. His athletes won a silver medal in the 4x100 freestyle relay.
Bedran also served as an assistant coach at Bowling Green for one season, where he focused on recruiting, academics and operations for the women's swimming and diving team. The Falcons finished fifth in the Mid-American Conference in 2018.
Prior to his stint at Bowling Green, Bedran spent one year as head swimming and diving coach and aquatics director for D-III Olivet College in Olivet, Michigan.
Before that, he was an assistant coach at Wayne State for six years, leading the men's and women's sprint group. The Warriors won the 2021 NCAA DII Women’s National Championship while he coached athletes to 13 DII national records and the 2011 and 2013 NCAA DII Male Swimmer of the Year.
Bedran was a four-year letterwinner at Wayne State from 2007-10, earning 17 first-team All-America honors. He helped lead the Warriors to three top-three team finishes at the NCAA DII Championships, including a runner-up finish in 2009. He was the 2009-10 Wayne State Male Student-Athlete of the Year and was inducted into the Wayne State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016.
Bedran graduated from Wayne State in 2010 with a degree in political science. While serving as assistant coach with the Warriors, he completed his master’s degree in comparative politics in 2019.
He and his wife Lauren are the parents of three children Mila, Cohen, and Lenna.
