Wisconsin competes in last dual meet of the season
MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin swim and dive teams return to action against the Northwestern Wildcats for their final dual meet of the season on Jan. 17. The meet will begin at 4 p.m.
Before the Badgers take their mark, here are five things to know:
1. LAST TIME OUT
Wisconsin opened up competition strong in the new year. The No. 19 men took home a 175.5-85.5 advantage over UC San Diego, taking home first place in all but one event. The No. 15 women competed in a quad dual, defeating UCLA, UC San Diego and Tulane. The Badgers collected 21 race wins on both sides across the meet.
2. B1G TIME
Following stellar performances in California and Florida, five Badgers took home Big Ten Weekly honors. Sophomore Maggie Wanezek and senior Ben Wiegand swept their events with first-place finishes, earning them Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honors. Freshman of the Week honors went to Lucie Delmas and Enzo Solitario, thanks to their individual event wins and quick relay legs. Junior diver Ryane Neal held steady in the diving well at the FIU Sprint Invite, garnering Diver of the Week honors after a first-place finish on the 3-meter.
3. DIVE RIGHT IN
While the swimmers competed out in California, the Badger diving crew closed out an eventful FIU Sprint Invite on the East Coast. Highlighted by Ryane Neal's first-place finish on the 3-meter board, the Badgers collected six other top-10 finishes thanks to performances from Julia Herring, Zara Karimi and Vivian Kinnard. Kinnard notched the highest finish on the 1-meter, placing fifth with 244.35 points.
4. LOOKING AHEAD:
After the meet against Northwestern, the Badgers have only one more meet before Big Ten Championships. Wisconsin will return home to host the Badger Invitational on Feb. 6-7 for their final meet before postseason competition begins.
