Sports Contact: Men's Basketball, Student oversight of Men's and Women's Cross Country, Men's and Women's Track and Field

AJ Harrison is in his 13th year at Wisconsin in 2025-26 and is entering his first year serving as the primary communications contact for the Wisconsin men’s basketball program. Harrison also works with the men’s and women’s cross country teams and the men’s and women’s track and field teams. 

Prior to working with the men’s basketball program, Harrison worked with the eight-time NCAA champion Wisconsin women’s hockey team for 12 years and publicized the program’s 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2025 NCAA title runs. During his time, the Badgers have 10 NCAA Frozen Four appearances, 12 NCAA tournament appearances, seven WCHA Playoff titles and six WCHA regular season crowns. Harrison promoted two Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winners in Casey O’Brien and Ann-Renee Desbiens and a Hockey Humanitarian Award winner in Brittany Ammerna. He's also worked with multiple Olympians including Emily Clark, Caroline Harvey, and Sarah Nurse.

Harrison has served as the cross country contact for nine years (2013-2019, 2022-Present) and the track and field contact for eight years (2013-19, 2023-Present). UW has won 12 Big Ten titles in his time while producing several Olympians, including three-time Olympian Zach Ziemek, 2020 Olympic Silver Medalist Mohammed Ahmed and two-time Olympian Kelsey Card. The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's Excellence in Communications Award recipient for the 2016 cross country season, Harrison served as the media director for the 2018 and 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Madison.

Harrison also has worked with the Badger women's soccer program (2019-21) and the UW softball team (2020-22). During his first year working with the women’s soccer team in 2019, UW won its third Big Ten title thanks to an undefeated run in conference play while the Badger softball team advanced to the 2022 NCAA Tournament and advanced to the regional championship game.

Prior to joining the staff at Wisconsin, Harrison spent a year in the athletic media relations office at the University of Tulsa. He primarily worked with the Golden Hurricane volleyball, track and field and tennis programs and served as the media coordinator for the 2012 Conference USA Volleyball Championship. Harrison also assisted with football, men’s and women's basketball and softball during his year at Tulsa.

As an undergraduate at Drake University, Harrison spent three years as an athletic communications student assistant, where he served as the track and field and cross country contact for two years. He was an important member of the Drake Relays staff, working a variety of different roles that included serving as the press box coordinator in 2012. Harrison also staffed two NCAA outdoor championships and four USA outdoor championships at Drake Stadium, including the 2018 and 2019 USA championships where Harrison was the mixed zone coordinator.

He also volunteered at the 2011 and 2012 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament second and third rounds in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Omaha, Nebraska, respectively, and the 2012 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament Des Moines Regional.

A native of Verona, Wisconsin, Harrison graduated from Drake University with a bachelor degree in journalism in 2012.
