Eric Schueffner is entering his second season at the University of Wisconsin as a volunteer assistant coach, previously coaching the Badgers in 2010-11 and 2004-06. Schueffner joined the Badgers after spending two seasons as the assistant coach at Oregon State.
While at Oregon State, Schueffner helped guide athletes to 13 new school records in the jumps, hurdles, sprintsand relay events and coached OSU’s first NCAA All-American since the program’s reinstatement in 2006 (Kara Hallock, Heptathlon 2017). Schueffner also qualified athletes in six different events for the NCAA First Round Regional Championships (200,400, HJ, LJ, 100H, and 400H) during his tenure, culminating with a 2016 Olympic Qualifier in the high Jump (Sara Almen).
Prior to Oregon State, Schueffner spent five years on the staff at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater where he was a two-time winner of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III Men's Assistant Coach of the Year (indoor 2013, outdoor 2015). During his four seasons at UW-Whitewater, he helped student-athletes earn 42 NCAA Championship Qualifying marks, 25 All-America accolades, 10 school records and mentored three national champions (Marcus Smith, TJ, Lexie Sondgeroth, LJ; and Rob Starnes, HJ). Schueffner was named Associate Head Coach at UW-W following the 2014-15 season.
From 2006-10, Schueffner was an assistant coach for men’s and women’s track and field at Seattle University. While at Seattle U., Schueffner coached sprints, hurdles, relays and jumps, and recruited student-athletes who went on to break nearly every school record in both indoor and outdoor track and field, culminating with two Great West conference champions (400-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles) in Seattle University’s first year in NCAA Division I competition. He also assisted Seattle University in fundraising, alumni events, camps, strength and conditioning, and cross country.
Before joining the collegiate ranks, Schueffner spent five seasons at Madison LaFollette High School (2000-04) where he was part of three conference championships and one WIAA state championship (2002).
Schueffner received a bachelor's in graphic design from UW-Whitewater in 1996 and a master's in sports administration and leadership from Seattle University. He was a four-year letterman for the track team at UWW and earned the conference’s scholar-athlete award as a senior. He holds a USATF Level I certification, has written for the USTFCCCA, and has spoken numerous times at WISTCA (Wisconsin) and WSTFCA (Washington) track and field conventions.
He and his wife, Kerrie, have two daughters, Lilly (9) and Cora (7).
