Men's Cross Country Moves Up to Fourth

Following a win at Minnesota's Roy Griak Invitational last weekend, the University of Wisconsin men's cross country team moves up two spots to fourth in the Mondo Men's Cross Country Poll, conducted by the United States Cross Country Coaches Association, released Oct. 1.
The Badgers are the top-ranked Big Ten Conference team in the poll and also lead the Great Lakes Region for the first time this season. Wisconsin is the two-time defending Big Ten champion and the two-time defending NCAA Great Lakes Regional champion.
Colorado, which finished second in the 2000 NCAA Championship, is ranked first for the third consecutive poll and receives 14 of 16 first-place votes. Stanford stays in second and defending NCAA champion Arkansas remains third. Wisconsin and Great Lakes Regional-foe Notre Dame round out the top five teams, respectively
Among Big Ten teams, the Badgers lead the way in fourth. Michigan moves up two spots to 12th and Michigan State moves on to the poll for the first time this season. Indiana and Minnesota receive votes.
The Badgers resume action on Oct. 13 with the Jim Drews Invitational, hosted by UW-LaCrosse. The men's 8000-meter race will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Maple Grove Country Club in West Salem, Wis.
Other division I men's teams scheduled to compete include 18th-ranked Oregon, which is coached by former UW head coach Martin Smith.
