Men's Cross Country Qualifies for NCAA Championship

The11th-ranked University of Wisconsin men's cross country team earned an at-large bid to the 2001 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship. The men's 63rd annual meet will be held Monday, Nov. 19 in Greenville, S.C., and hosted by Furman University. The men's 10,000-meter race begins at 11 a.m. EST, on the Furman University Cross Country Course on the Furman Golf Course.
Wisconsin is making its 30th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship. The Badgers have finished among the top-10 teams 22 times including the last five years in a row.
The Badgers received an at-large bid after placing fourth with 97 points and two top-10 finishes at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional 10,000-meter race last Saturday. Fourth-ranked Notre Dame won the regional team title with 71 points, Michigan was second with 82 points and Michigan State finished third with 86 points.
Wisconsin was led at the regional by redshirt freshmen Matt Tegenkamp and Josh Spiker, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Tegenkamp covered the 10,000-meter course in 30:46 while Spiker crossed in 30:50.
