The Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team couldn't inch closer to Minnesota Invitational leader Notre Dame in second-day action at Minneapolis and finished the second-straight day in second place. The Badgers have accumulated 627.5 points to Notre Dame's 714.
On day two at the Minnesota Invite, five individual events, two relays and one diving event took place. The Wisconsin 800 freestyle relay team was the only UW first-place finish. Two Badgers finished second in their respective events.
Frosh Carly Piper (Grosse Point, Mich.), sophomore Emily Pisula (Freeport, Ill.), junior Jenny Lyman (Englewood, Colo.) and rookie Shannon Van Curen (Brentwood, Tenn.) swam the 800 free in 7:27.08 to take the top spot for Bucky. Piper added a second place finish in the 200 free (1:49.86) and Pisula took runner-up in the 400 IM (4:20.39).
In the three-meter diving event senior Megan Kernan (Westmont, N.J.) took fourth, while sister Siobhan Kernan (Westmont, N.J.) finished fifth.
The Badgers conclude action at the Minnesota Invite Sunday. The swimming begins at 10 a.m.
