UW Announces 2001-02 Men's Hoops Schedule
August 22, 2001 | Men's Basketball
The University of Wisconsin men's basketball 2001-02 schedule is highlighted by at least 17 games against teams that advanced to postseason play last year. The Badgers will kick off the Bo Ryan era on Sat., Nov. 17 at UNLV and will open the 13-game home season against UW-Green Bay on Sat., Dec. 1.
'This is a very challenging schedule, especially considering the inexperience of our team,' Ryan said. 'We welcome that challenge and look forward to competing with some of the best teams in the country this season. We know our fans appreciate seeing quality opponents and we are continuing that trend with this schedule.'
After opening the season in Las Vegas, the UW will travel to Hawaii to take part in the 2001 City Bank/Aloha Airlines Big Island Basketball Invitational. Included in this year's field are LSU, Colorado State, Hawaii, Weber State, Mercer, South Carolina State and host Hawaii-Hilo. In this year's third annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge, Wisconsin faces Georgia Tech. That game will be on Nov. 28 in Atlanta, Ga., and televised nationally by ESPN.
Wisconsin begins the Big Ten schedule with a road tilt against Iowa on Jan. 2. Illinois, the conference co-champion a year ago, comes to the Kohl Center on Jan. 5 for the first conference home game. Three of the Badgers' first four conference games are away from home. Wisconsin plays four conference teams only once, hosting Purdue and Ohio State and traveling to Michigan State and Indiana. The UW 's home game against Iowa on Feb. 19 will be televised by ESPN.
Besides UW-Green Bay, other non-conference home games include Temple (Dec. 3), Furman (Dec. 15), Marquette (Dec. 22) and Tennessee (Dec. 29). The complete 2001-02 schedule is attached.
