Badgers Remain Ranked Sixth

The University of Wisconsin men's cross country team remains ranked sixth in the Mondo Men's Cross Country Poll, conducted by the United States Cross Country Coaches Association, released Sept. 25.
The Badgers are the top-ranked Big Ten Conference team in the poll but are ranked second in the Great Lakes Region behind Notre Dame. Wisconsin is the two-time defending Big Ten champion and the two-time defending NCAA Great Lakes Regional champion.
Colorado, which finished second in the 2000 NCAA Championship, is ranked first for the second consecutive poll and receives 14 of 16 first-place votes. Stanford stays in second and defending NCAA champion Arkansas remains third. Notre Dame and Providence round out the top five teams, respectively
Among Big Ten teams, the Badgers lead the way in sixth. Michigan is ranked 14th, Indiana 19th and Minnesota 20th. Michigan State, Penn State, Iowa and Ohio State receive votes.
The Badgers travel to Minneapolis, Minn., on Saturday for the Roy Griak Invitational. The men's 8000-meter gold race (Division I schools) will begin at 11 a.m., on the Les Bolstad Golf Course.
Men's teams scheduled to compete include No. 4 Providence, No. 9 Arizona, No. 9 Georgetown, No. 12 William & Mary, No. 13 Oregon, No. 15 Brigham Young, No. 18 Weber State, No. 19 Michigan and No. 21 Arizona State.
