Tassistro Leads Badgers in Xavier Invitational

Junior Kevin Tassistro shot 18-hole and 36-hole collegiate career lows of 69 and 139, respectively, in the first two rounds of the Xavier Invitational. He led Wisconsin through both rounds at the par 71, 6,756-yard Grizzly Course at King's Island in Mason, Ohio and will head into Tuesday's final round in a tie for seventh individually.
The Badger team is also tied for seventh after two rounds, firing scores of 287-285--572. Its second round 285 is UW's lowest 18-hole team total since April 28, 2001.
Following Tassistro for the Badgers was freshman Garrett Jones. He carded scores of 73-71--144 in a tie for 32nd. Junior Brian Brodell was one stroke behind Jones with 70-75--145. Rookie Ryan Conn is tied for 66th with 75-74--149 and Dylan Esterling rounded out the Wisconsin participants with 81-70--151.
Leading the teams after 36 holes is Indiana University with scores of 283-277-560. The Hoosiers broke the 36-hole tournament record by two strokes. Also setting a mark in the record books was second-place Bowling Green, whose first round 276 ties the 18-hole tournament record.
Individually, Hoosier Jeff Overton holds the lead with a 36-hole tournament record of 12-under 130 (65-65). Michael Bielawski of Marquette in second place broke the 18-hole tournament record by shooting 63 for his first 18-holes of play.
The 20-team fieild will wrap up the tournament tomorrow with the final 18-holes of play teeing off at 8:00 a.m.
