Tuesday, wide receiver Lee Evans took home the USATODAY.com player of the week award for his record-setting performance against Michigan State. Each week during the season, readers select their pick for USATODAY.com Player of the Week.
Evans' performance was enough to best other record-setting performers from around the country including West Virginia's Quincy Wilson, and Tennessee's Casey Clausen.
Last Saturday, Evans had one of the most impressive receiving days in Badger history. In addition to setting school records in receiving yards with 258, single-season touchdowns with 12, and career touchdowns with 26, he set the Big Ten record for touchdowns in one game with 5.
The senior captain from Bedford, OH is Wisconsin's all-time leading receiver with 167 career receptions, 3,341 career receiving yards and receptions in 36 consecutive games. Currently, Evans is also the Big Ten's leading receiver averaging 98.7 yards per game while hauling in 12 touchdown receptions.
His touchdowns of 9, 75, 18, 79, and 18 yards gave Michigan State 's defense fits all day, but most importantly, helped the Badgers secure an important 56-21 home victory.
Evans' performance aside, it was a record-setting day for the entire football program as 19 team and individual marks were broken, which, not surprisingly, was a record itself.
The Badgers look to continue their success in front of a national television audience when they take on the Iowa Hawkeyes this Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium.
