Badgers Continue Action at Minnesota Invite

The Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team continued it strong performance during the second day of action at the Minnesota Invitational Saturday. The Badgers had three swimmers earn first-place finishes, while another three were runners-up.
Senior Bethany Pendleton dominated the action in the 400-yard individual medley (4:20.63), cruising to a win by nearly six seconds over teammate and classmate Emily Pisula (4:26.40).
Freshman Susan Johnson captured the title in the 100-yard butterfly (55.65) and placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (56.65). Molly Buhrandt, Anna Trinidad and Lindsay Leech finished fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 100 back. Sarah Hernandez contributed an eighth-place finish in the 100 fly.
Junior Carly Piper won her second event of the meet, taking the title in the 200-yard freestyle with a winning time of 1:49.46. Trinidad also finished third in the event, while Pendleton was fourth and Shannon VanCuren was sixth.
Sophomore Amalia Sarnecki was barely edged out by Minnesota 's Melissa Schold for top honors in the 100-yard breaststroke. Sarnecki's time of 1:03.87 was just five-hundredths of a second behind Schold.
The Badgers are expected to compete in a limited capacity Sunday during the final day of the invitational in order to rest for next weekend's Texas Invitational.
