Wisconsin Women Swim Past Indiana

The Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team swam successfully against Indiana, winning 142-100 Friday in Madison, Wis. at the UW Natatorium. Bucky, 2-0 in the Big Ten, had a strong showing for the home crowd winning 10 out of 12 events. The win puts the Badgers in a position to open 3-0 against Big Ten competition for the third straight season.
Leading the way for the Badgers was junior Carly Piper, senior Bethany Pendleton and sophomore sensation Sarah Hernandez. Piper won the 200 free (1:49.92), the 500 free (4:54.77) and the 1000 free (10:03.32). Hood River, Oregon native, Bethany Pendleton and was a member of the first-place 400 medley relay team (3:45.71), which broke the UW Natatorium's previous pool record of 3:47.64 and was a member of the first-place 400 free relay squad (3:23.78). Pendleton also broke the pool record in the 400 IM which was 4:20.71, finishing in a time of 4:18.31.
Sophomore Sarah Hernandez was victorious in the 50 free (23.67) and the 100 free (51.00), while also a member of the first-place 400 free relay team (3:23.78). Freshman, Susan Johnson also aided Bucky's cause, taking first in the 200 back (2:01.10).
Sophomore divers Cassie Kubly (227.48) and Amanda Witte (225.83) finished second and third, respectively on the three-meter boards. On the one-meter boards, the pair flip-flopped with Witte coming in at third (217.50) and Kubly in at fourth (208.80).
The Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team will host Big Ten rival Northwestern next at the UW Natatorium on Thursday, Nov.13th.
