April 26, 2003 | Men's Golf
The Badger golf team sits in last place of the 14-team field after the first two rounds of the Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Mich. After a slight delay due to frost, the team shot a first round 314, but recovered in the second round, firing 299. Unfortunately, it was not good enough to keep them out of last place, where they sit two strokes behind Michigan. Host Michigan State will lead the teams into Sunday's final round with 289-285'575.
Badgers were led by sophomore Dylan Esterling, who shot 78-73 '151, in a tie for 34th. In his collegiate debut, junior Jonathan Blauner managed to tie for 53rd with rounds of 75-81'156. Sophomores Brian Brodell (83-74) and Michael Baldwin (78-79)both tied for 61st, each totaling 157. Kevin Tassistro was one stroke behind with 85-73'158. Senior Joel Rechlicz was set to compete, but withdrew due to an injury.
