UW Men's Cross Country Ranked Second in Preseason Poll

In the 2003 Mondo Men's Cross Country Preseason Poll released Tuesday, the Wisconsin men's cross-country team is ranked second behind Stanford, the defending NCAA champions. The Badgers began their season on Aug. 29 with a victory at the Hawkeye Invitational.
Wisconsin was one of seven Big Ten teams ranked in the poll. After the Badgers, Michigan checked in at No. 7, Indiana was ranked 17th and Minnesota 19th. Ohio State and Iowa were tied for the 26th spot while Michigan State was tied for 28th.
The Badgers heads into the 2003 season with an impressive resume after winning it's fourth consecutive Big Ten title and finishing second at the NCAA championships in 2002. Their top three returning runners include 2002 All-American Bobby Lockhart, 2001 All-American Josh Spiker, and two-time All American, 2002 Big Ten Champ and the 2002 Big Ten Athlete of the Year Matt Tegenkamp.
Wisconsin will compete in its second race of the year on Sept. 27 at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
