UW Badgers Defeat Hawkeyes, 243-108

The Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team continued its strong performance during the second day of action against the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Badgers took first in all of the events on Saturday morning, finishing with a 243-108 victory.
'We made some adjustments for this afternoon's meet and are very happy with the results,' head coach Eric Hansen said. 'I thought today was a great way to end the meet.'
Senior Carly Piper (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) dominated in the 500-yard freestyle (4:49.80), cruising to a win by 10 seconds over teammate Emily Carpenter 's (Lee's Summit, Mo.) finish of 5:00.93. Fellow Badgers Rebecca Johansson (Greensboro, N.C.) and Liz Klanderman (Fitchburg, Wis.) finished third and fifth, respectively.
Junior Anna Trinidad (Colorado Springs, Colo.) captured individual titles in the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.40) and 400-yard IM (4:21.89), as well as helped the 400-yard medley relay team of Susan Johnson (Toledo, Ohio), Amalia Sarnecki (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Sarah Hernandez (Chico, Calif.) to a first-place finish (3:46.59).
Sarnecki also took first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.65), as well as led the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Jackie Vavrek (W. Chicago, Ill.), Hernandez and Jenny Will (Mequon, Wis.) to victory.
In addition, Wisconsin claimed first-place finishes from junior Hernandez in the 100-yard freestyle (51.25) and Johnson in the 100-yard butterfly (55.82).
The Badgers will next face Arizona at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29 in Tucson, Ariz.
