November 19, 2004 | Football
Football senior running back Anthony Davis has been named the UW Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Student-Athlete of the Month for October.
Davis, a native of Plainfield, N.J., helped lead the Badgers to a perfect 4-0 record during the month of October. He was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against Illinois Oct. 2.
Guidelines for consideration to receive the award include outstanding achievement or recognition in academics; significant contribution to his or her respective team; active engagement in community service; and he/she must be an eligible student-athlete (includes a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater).
Davis was nominated by women's cross country and track athlete Linsey Blaisdell. Blaisdell wrote the following in her nomination: "I nominate Anthony Davis, because of his ability to persevere through injuries (eye). He has been able to stay focused and has been committed enough to come back to the game and perform to the highest level yet. He has the obvious ability to motivate his teammates on and off the field. He is a senior team leader. He also has the great ability to balance sport and school, shown through student teaching this semester."
Davis is majoring in elementary education. He and the rest of the UW football team close their regular season Saturday afternoon at Iowa. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
