Badgers Remain No. 1

The Wisconsin men's cross country team, fresh off a Big Ten Championship, holds on the No. 1 spot in the Mondo Men's Cross Country poll for the fifth consecutive week. Wisconsin received 12 out of 14 first-place votes, while No. 3 Arkansas received two. Stanford remains in second place, while Colorado fell to No. 4, followed by Notre Dame at No. 5. The poll is conducted by the United States Cross Country Coaches Association and was released Nov. 2.
The top-ranked Badgers won their sixth consecutive Big Ten Conference championship in Iowa City, Iowa on Oct. 31. Wisconsin swept the top three places to win with 23 points, the fourth-lowest point total in championship history. No. 10 Indiana was a distant second with 104 points while No. 17 Iowa was third with 110 points.
The Badgers next compete at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Ypsilanti, Mich., on Nov. 13. UW is one of seven teams from the region to be ranked in the top-30. Notre Dame is fifth, followed by No. 10 Indiana and No. 13 Butler. Also ranked is Michigan, who fell to No. 23, followed by No. 26 Central Michigan, and No. 29 Ohio State
The top two teams in the region automatically qualify for the NCAA championship witch is Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind. Wisconsin is the defending regional champion and finished second in the 2003 NCAA meet.
