Badgers Taken Down by Iowa, 30-7

With a share of the Big Ten Conference title on the line, the University of Wisconsin football team dropped its second straight contest, falling to Iowa 30-7 Saturday at Kinnick Stadium.
First-place Michigan was beaten by Ohio State earlier in the day. A victory for ninth-ranked UW (9-2 overall, 6-2 Big Ten) would have given it a co-championship and a trip to the Rose Bowl. Instead, the No. 17 Hawkeyes (9-2, 6-2) split the title with the Wolverines while also earning the inaugural Heartland Trophy.
Tailback Booker Stanley scored the Badgers' only touchdown on a four-yard run in the second quarter. His TD knotted the game at 7-7.
Safety Jim Leonhard tallied two interceptions, while cornerback Brett Bell had a third. Iowa, however, overcame its turnovers by forcing Wisconsin to commit four, including three by quarterback John Stocco.
Stocco finished just 14-of-29 for 107 yards. His counterpart, Drew Tate, racked up 186 yards in the air with three touchdown passes.
Clinton Solomon caught a game-high six passes for 100 yards with two TDs as the Hawkeyes held a 232-172 advantage in total offense. They scored in every quarter, just the second team to accomplish that feat against UW this season.
In the first half, the Badgers could not capitalize on Leonhard 's two picks, missing field goals on both ensuing drives. An incomplete Hail Mary attempt by Wisconsin as time expired kept the score 14-7 at the break.
Iowa then tacked on 10 points in the third quarter and six points in the fourth for its seventh consecutive triumph.
