Wisconsin Takes Second at Invite

The Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team ended up in second place in the Minnesota Invite after Sunday's final rounds. The women finished with 880 points even though they did not compete in the finals of today's events, only the preliminaries.
The team was led by senior co-captain Carly Piper (Grosse Point Woods, Mich.) taking first in the 1650-yard freestyle 16:37.26). In the 200-yard backstroke, the Wisconsin women took first, second and third. Susan Johnson (Toledo, Ohio), Anna Trinidad (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Andrea Wiesner (Montrose, Colo.) swept the podium with times of 2:00.46, 2:01.05 and 2:06.35, respectively.
In addition, the women finished first and second in the 400-yard freestyle relay with times of 3:26.60 and 3:30.24, respectively.
In the 100-yard freestyle preliminary, Wisconsin dominated once again, taking first through sixth--Sarah Hernandez (Chico, Calif.) led with a time of 50.99, followed by Kristy Brager (Green Bay, Wis.) at 52.43 and Emily Carpenter (Lee 's Summit, Mo.) at 52.54.
Amalia Sarnecki (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Sierra Lewis (Bend, Ore.) took first and second with times of 2:15.66 and 2:19.33, respectively, in the 200-yard breaststroke preliminary.
Taking first through fourth in the 200-yard butterfly preliminary were Katie Imhoff-Smith (Waukesha, Wis.) (2:07.59), Liz Klanderman (Fitchburg, Wis.) (2:08.20), Jenny Gelden (Kenosha, Wis.) (2:08.37) and Caroline Ackley (Raleigh, N.C.) (2:09.61).
Diver Cassie Kubly (Middleton, Wis.) took sixth on the platform board with a score of 314.75.
The women have the week off, and return to action Dec. 2 in Austin, Texas for the Texas Invite.
