Jim Leonhard, senior free safety with the Wisconsin football team, has been named to the first team of the 2004 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Football team as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).
Leonhard is Wisconsin's first first-team Academic All-American since Don Davey in 1990. Leonhard was a second-team selection in 2003.
Named first-team All-Big Ten for the third straight season earlier this week, Leonhard will travel to New York City on Dec. 7 for the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Dinner. He will be honored as a recipient of a 2004 National Football Foundation postgraduate scholarship (an $18,000 award).
Leonhard and the Badgers will return to practice on Dec. 4 to begin preparations for the Outback Bowl in Tampa, Fla., on Jan. 1.
