The Badger Men's golf team, fresh off earning a tie for the Michigan/Radrick Farms Invitational Championship last weekend, returns to the action Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 18th and 19th to host one of two home meets during the 2004-05 season. Thirteen teams will compete in the 2004 Northern Intercollegiate at University Ridge in Verona. The teams play 36 holes on Saturday, and 18 more on Sunday starting in a shotgun start at 9 a.m. each day (CHANGED FROM 8 a.m.).
Big Ten schools Illinois, Iowa, Michigan and Penn State join Wisconsin and in-state rival Marquette with Mid-American conference teams Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Miami (Ohio) and Northern Illinois with the Bulldogs of the Missouri Valley Conference to form the 13-team field. Several teams will also bring an extra individual to round out the field.
The UW earned a share of first-place last week thanks to a strong final day. The Badgers shot the day's second-lowest round of the day with a 286 behind eighth-place Rice. Sophomore Garrett Jones led the Badgers to the tournament championship with a career-low 54-hole effort (74-71-69=214). The Rewey, Wis. native improved eight spots in the individual meet managing a tie for the runner-up spot with a 69 in the final round, tying his career-low.
In his first meet as a Badger, Jeff Kaiser came on strong over the last 36 holes to tie with three others at 217 (74-72-71).
The tournament's site, University Ridge, was recently recognized as the eighth-best collegiate course in the United States.
