Badgers Ranked First

The University of Wisconsin men's cross country team is ranked No. 1 in the Mondo Men's Cross Country Poll, receiving nine of 14 first-place votes. The poll is conducted by the United States Cross Country Coaches Association and was released Sept. 21. In 2003, the Badgers finished second at the NCAA championships and won their fifth consecutive Big Ten Championship.
Stanford, the reining national champion, is ranked second, Iona is third, followed by Arkansas and Colorado. The Big Ten has six teams ranked in the top 30. Michigan is ranked sixth, followed by No. 12 Indiana and No. 16 Minnesota. Ohio State is tied for 22nd with Georgia, while the Iowa Hawkeyes are 28th.
On Saturday, UW travels to Minneapolis for the Roy Griak Invitational. The Badgers will face off against other ranked teams including; No. 14 Providence, No. 16 Minnesota, No. 21 Oregon, and No. 22 Ohio State. The men's 8000-meter gold race (Division I schools) will begin at 11:20 a.m., on the Les Bolstad Golf Course.
