September 25, 2004 | Men's Golf
Wisconsin Men's Golf (297-300=597) finds itself fourteen strokes behind leader SW Missouri State (288-295=583) in a 15th-place tie with Northern Iowa at the Hawkeye Intercollegiate on Finkbine Golf Course. After two rounds, SW Missouri State owns two of the tournament's lowest team scores and a two-stroke advantage over host Iowa going into the Sunday's final 18 holes.
Freshman Jeff Kaiser had a career day in matching the team's finish with 143 (70-43) to tie two others in fifth-place. His 36-hole mark ecplispses his previous career-best 36-hole score by two strokes. Kaiser's two-under par performace during the first round matched his career-low set at this season's Wisconsin Northern Intercollegiate. If Kaiser maintains the fifth-place position, it will be the highest finish of his young career.
Senior Brian Brodell (71-77=148) finished the first 36-holes tied for 13th-place with SW Missouri State's Todd Laney. Brodell's initial round of 71 was the team's second-lowest round of the tournament.
Sophomore Garret Jones finished with a pack of seven in 22nd-place, posting a total of 151. Jones improved three strokes (77-74) in the second round to finish seven-over par and climb ten spots in the individual competition. Each shooting 156 for the first two rounds of the tournament, Adam DeLawyer (77-79) and Ryan Conn (76-78) finished tied for 35th-place.
Drake's Jeff Berkshire leads the field by one stroke with a six-under par 138 (70-68). Berkshire's second-round 68 is the lowest individual round of the meet by one stroke as well.
The final round will begin Sunday morning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. on the University of Iowa's par-72 7,017-yard Finkbine Golf Course.
