UW Says 'Aloha' to Hawaii
November 25, 2005 | Football
The University of Wisconsin football team (8-3) concludes its regular season slate by playing Hawaii (4-6) in a non-conference showdown at 8 p.m. CT Friday at Aloha Stadium in Aiea, Hawaii. The game will be televised live on ESPN2.
Both teams are coming off a bye. The Warriors, led by QB Colt Brennan 's 386 yards passing and three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing), routed Utah State 50-23 two weeks ago to snap a two-game losing streak
Brennan has paved the way for Hawaii to be ranked No. 2 nationally in passing with 388.2 yards per game. In three of the past five games, he has thrown for at least 400 yards.
'Offensively, (Hawaii is) very similar to what we 've seen in a number of schools,' head coach Barry Alvarez said, 'one back, no back, four wides, no tight ends.'
On defense, the Warriors are ranked No. 110 nationally in scoring, allowing an average of 34.9 points per game. No. 24/22 Wisconsin, meanwhile, is 15th in the nation in scoring offense, putting up 34.6 ppg.
Part of the reason for the team's offensive prowess is due to QB John Stocco, who has continued his hot streak as of late by having seven straight games of at least 200 yards passing and at least one passing touchdown. He is currently No. 1 in season passing yards (2,428) at UW.
Two of his top targets are seniors Brandon Williams (five TDs, 16.9 yards per catch) and Jonathan Orr (six TDs, 16.8 yards per catch). The former caught a career-high 132 yards in the game against Iowa two weeks ago.
The Badgers could be in line for the Capital One Bowl on Jan. 2 should they win and Ohio State gets an invitation from a BCS Bowl.
