Following its 41-24 victory over Hawaii last Friday, the University of Wisconsin football team earned all three Big Ten Player of the Week awards, the Conference office announced, as QB John Stocco (Offensive), LB Dontez Sanders (Defensive) and kicker Taylor Mehlhaff (Special Teams) all were honored.
Stocco was instrumental in the win, as he accounted for three touchdowns. His two passing scores gave him 19 for the year, tying a school record for passing TDs in a season. Stocco finished 12-of-16 for 191 yards, further improving his season passing record to 2,619 yards. The junior from Richfield, Minn., also rushed for a score, his second of the year.
On the other side of the ball, Sanders had a solid all-around defensive effort, amassing four tackles, three TFLs, 2.5 sacks, one interception for nine yards and one pass breakup. The senior from Bedford, Ohio, helped Wisconsin limit Hawaii to just 43 yards rushing and 5-of-14 third down conversions (.357). In addition, Sanders continues to lead UW in tackling, having made 89 this year.
On special teams, Mehlhaff had another perfect game from a kicking standpoint, making 5-of-5 PATs and 2-of-2 field goals. On kickoffs, he had eight for 510 yards, an average of 63.8 yards per kick, and had four touchbacks. For the season, Mehlhaff is 13-of-17 in FGs and 53-of-55 in PATs.
The Badgers are off until their bowl game, which won't be determined until next week.
