Men's Golf in 15th at Cleveland State Invitational

The Wisconsin men's golf team sits in 15th place after day one of the Cleveland State Invitational after recording a 307-292=599 on Monday at Sand Ridge Golf Club in Chardon, Ohio.
UW holds a six-stroke lead over Eastern Michigan and is two shots behind a three-way tie for 12th place between host Cleveland State, Indiana and Miami of Ohio. Wisconsin is just four shots shy of a top-10 finish.
Junior Garrett Jones (Rewey, Wis.) led the way for the Badgers on Monday, posting rounds of 71 and 70 on the par-71 course. Jones is tied for 4th place at 1-under par with the final 18 holes left to play on Tuesday.
Three freshmen made their UW debuts on Monday. Pat Duffy (Appleton, Wis.) shot a 74 in round two, seven strokes better than his opening round 81. Nick Engen (McFarland, Wis.) and Ben Herrera (Waukee, Iowa) saw similar improvements between rounds. Engen followed up a first round 81 with a 73 in the afternoon while Herrera rebounded from an 83 in the morning to record a 75.
Sophomore Jeff Kaiser (Onalaska, Wis.) rounded out the Badger effort with rounds of 74 and 83 and sits in a tie for 73rd place.
TCU leads the 17-team field at 284-290=574 while Gary Woodland from Kansas is in first place in the individual competition at 9-under par.
The Cleveland State Invitational resumes with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. EDT Tuesday morning at Sand Ridge Golf Club. Live stats can be found at golfstat.com.
