Solinsky Wins Notre Dame Invitational

The No. 1 Wisconsin men's cross country team finished fifth in the Notre Dame Invitational Friday out of 25 teams. The Badgers scored 174 points and were led by junior Chris Solinsky's first place finish.
Solinsky was the best of 200 runners with a time of 23:21. Arizona 's Obed Mutayna and South Alabama's Vincent Rono followed Solinsky as they tied for second place with a time of 23:30. Solinsky has accumulated many top 10 finishes during his three years at Wisconsin, but the individual Notre Dame Invitational title marks the first collegiate win for the Stevens Point, Wis. native.
Senior Bobby Lockhart was the next Badger runner to cross the finish line. He finished 15th with a time of 24:06. Redshirt freshman Christian Wagner competed in his first official race as a Badger and finished 19th with a time of 24:12. Senior Ben Gregory clocked a 24:42 for a 41st place finish while sophomore Ben Porter finished 102nd with a time of 25:35. Freshman Joe Pierre, a transfer from Marquette, rounded out the six Badger runners with a time of 26:37 for 166th place.
No. 7 Arizona took home the Invitational team title with 70 points. Host No. 6 Notre Dame collected 104 points for second place while Florida (121) and No. 18 Florida State (159) came in third and fourth, respectively. No. 14 Michigan and Purdue also represented the Big Ten with sixth and 16th place finishes, respectively.
The Badgers will take a break in competition until Saturday, Oct. 15 when they head to the Jim Drews Invitational in West Salem, Wis.
