
Beckum A Semifinalist For Mackey Award

Travis Beckum, sophomore tight end for the Wisconsin football team, has been named one of eight semifinalists for the John Mackey Award, which is presented annually to the nation 's top tight end, the Nassau County Sports Commission announced Friday.
Beckum, who leads the nation's tight ends in receiving yards this season, has caught 51 passes for 686 yards and four touchdowns. His 51 receptions are the most ever by a Wisconsin tight end.
The semifinalists for the 2006 John Mackey Award are:

John Carlson, Jr., Notre Dame
Chase Coffman, So., Missouri
Jonny Harline, Sr., BYU
Zach Miller, Jr., Arizona State
Joe Newton , Sr., Oregon State
Matt Spaeth, Sr., Minnesota
The eight semifinalists were determined by confidential balloting of the John Mackey Selection Committee. The 2006 recipient of 'The Mackey' will be announced on Dec. 7, 2006 at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show live on ESPN and presented at the Nassau County Sports Commission Annual Awards Dinner on April 30, 2007.
The John Mackey Award is given to the collegiate tight end who best exemplifies the play, sportsmanship, academics, and community values of NFL Hall of Fame Tight End John Mackey.
