Raise the Roof for Gilda's Club Madison
November 20, 2006 | Women's Basketball
The Wisconsin fans and women's basketball team have the opportunity to be part of something special this season. UW Coach Lisa Stone has pledged to donate $.25 per fan attending the Wisconsin-Minnesota women's basketball game at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 28. The proceeds benefit Gilda's Club of Madison. A Kohl Center sellout is 17,142 fans.
The Cause
Gilda's Club, named for comedian Gilda Radner of Saturday Night Live fame, is a free, non-profit support community for anyone touched by any kind of cancer as well as their families and friends. It's a warm and welcoming, non-residential clubhouse where men, women, and children come together to build social and emotional support as a supplement to medical care.
By purchasing tickets to the game, fans will enjoy exciting Big Ten women's basketball and help a terrific local cause. Reserved tickets purchased in advance are available for $7. Adult general admission tickets are $7, while youth, UW student, and senior citizen general admission tickets are $3. Group ticket rates are also available. Tickets are available online at uwbadgers.com.
Additionally, Bucky's Locker Room will sell a limited-edition event T-shirt. This red, short-sleeve shirt featuring the ' ProductCode=5002021%20"> --> Raise the Roof ' logo is available exclusively at Bucky 's Locker Room outlets. The shirt will sell for $15 and includes two general admission tickets to the UW-UM game on Jan. 28. Bucky's Locker Room will donate $5 to Gilda's Club from the sale of each 'Raise the Roof' T-shirt. Fans are encouraged to wear the T-shirts on Jan. 28 in support of the campaign. T-shirts may be ordered online at ProductCode=5002021%20"> --> buckyslockerroom.com .
The Border Battle Rivalry
Throughout the years, the Badgers and Gophers have battled on the court 55 times, with Wisconsin leading the series 28 to 27. In Madison, however, the Badgers control the overall series 15 games to 10. The Border Battle was again memorable last February at the Kohl Center when Wisconsin upset the then 17th-ranked Gophers 67-61, in front of nearly 15,000 fans. It was the largest attendance in any Big Ten game last season, and the fifth best attendance in UW school history. In fact, the only official sellout of the Kohl Center for women's basketball took place against Minnesota on Jan. 20, 2002, in a 'Cram the Kohl' promotion.
