December 12, 2006 | Football
Joe Thomas, who last week became the University of Wisconsin's first Outland Trophy winner, has been named to the Associated Press first-team All-America squad, it was announced on Tuesday.
Thomas is Wisconsin's first first-team A.P. All-American since Erasmus James in 2004 and the first Badger offensive lineman to earn that recognition since Chris McIntosh in 1999.
In addition to this most recent accolade, Thomas has already been named a first-team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America, the American Football Coaches Association, Walter Camp and Rivals.com. Thomas is a 2006 National Scholar-Athlete by the National Football Foundation, as well as an ESPN The Magazine second-team Academic All-American. He is a consensus first-team All-Big Ten selection, as well as an Academic All-Big Ten choice for the third straight year.
Thomas and the Badgers are in the midst of preparations for their Capital One Bowl matchup with Arkansas on Jan. 1 in Orlando, Fla.
