Badgers Climb to 13th-Place Finish

With a 316 in the final round, the Wisconsin men's golf team moved up one spot to 13th place Sunday at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.
The Badgers posted a score four strokes lower than Penn State 's 320 to overtake the Nittany Lions. UW finished the tournament at 939, one shot ahead of host-school Ohio State and three shots better than Penn State.
Freshman Pat Duffy (Appleton, Wis.) made the biggest jump for Wisconsin on Sunday by moving up nine spots. Duffy improved his score by one shot in each round after an 80 in the opening round to finish tied for 52nd place at 237.
Jeff Kaiser (Onalaska, Wis.) recorded UW's best finish for the second consecutive week and the third time in five tournaments this spring. The sophomore closed out the weekend with a 76 to finish tied for 30th place at 230.
Junior Garrett Jones (Rewey, Wis.) shot an 81 in the final round to finish tied for 56th place at 238. Prior to this weekend, Jones had only recorded one round in the 80s in his career, an 80 at the 2004 Kepler Intercollegiate.
Fellow junior Adam Steinhofer (Madison, Wis.) ended the tournament tied for 60th place one stroke behind Jones.
Freshman Nick Engen (McFarland, Wis.) rounded out the UW effort with an 81 on Sunday to finish in 72nd place at 245.
Northwestern passed Indiana with an 8-over 296 on Sunday to win the 15-team tournament. Northwestern's Kyle Moore defeated Indiana's Seth Brandon with a par on the second playoff hole to win the individual title.
The Badgers return to the course April 22-23 for the Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Mich.
