July 12, 2006 | Men's Golf
Wisconsin men's golf coach Jim Schuman shot a 214 en route to a seventh place finish in this year's WPGA Professional Championship at the Timber Ridge Golf Club in Minocqua, Wis.
Schuman, who will be entering his fourth year as the Badger 's head coach, shot a two-under 70 in the first round of the tournament. He then went on to shoot a 69 and 75 in the second and third rounds, respectively.
In last year's championship Schuman shot a three-under 213 at The Bull at Pinehurst Farms in Sheboygan Falls, Wis., to win his third state PGA championship. In addition to his three state titles, Schuman has twice won the Wisconsin State Open (1996 and 2003) and was named the Wisconsin PGA Player of the year in both 2001 and 2003.
In only three years at Wisconsin, Schuman has taken the UW men 's golf program to a whole new level. Just one year after setting a new team season scoring average record, the Badgers posted the fifth-best team average in school history at 297.53 (10,711 strokes, 36 rounds). The Badgers begin the 2006-07 season when they travel to Pinehurst, N.C., to compete in the Mid-Pines Intercollegiate Sept. 11-12.
