
Former Badger Rowers Complete World Championships

Beau Hoopman and Paul Daniels rowed the U.S. men's eight to a bronze medal, while Katie Sweet helped the U.S. women's lightweight quadruple sculls to fifth place on the final day of the 2006 FISA World Rowing Championships in Eton, Great Britain on Sunday.
Hoopman and Daniels, the defending gold medalists, finished behind champion Germany and runner-up Italy for third place and a bronze medal in the men's eight. Germany took the lead early and never relinquished it, crossing the 2,000-meter finish line in 5:21.85. Italy was second in 5:23.29, with the U.S. third in 5:24.14.
Sweet, making her international debut, rowed to fifth place in the women's lightweight quadruple sculls. Sweet and her crew clocked a 6:40.86, just under 17 seconds behind the winning boat from China. Denmark and Great Britain garnered silver and bronze, while Germany placed fourth.
