Badger Golf Team Adds Beaver Dam Native
September 05, 2006 | Men's Golf
Badger men's golf coach Jim Schuman announced today the addition of sophmore Dan Woltman to the 2006-07 roster.
The Beaver Dam, Wis., native returns to his home state after transferring from the University of Kentucky. As a freshmen at Kentucky, Woltman competed in all 12 tournaments for the Wildcats while recording a scoring average of 73.41. Woltman's two top-10 finishes, and a season-low round of 69 helped him to be ranked as GolfWeek Magazine's 134th best collegiate player in the 2005-06 season.
'We are excited about Dan being here and being part of our Badger Golf program, ' said Schuman. 'Dan has been successful both in the classroom and on the course throughout his career. He is a very talented player who loves to compete. We are excited about the depth and leadership he provides our team.'
Woltman helps add depth to a young Badger team that features four freshman, five sophomores, one junior and two seniors. According to GolfWeek Magazine, Woltman currently ranks as the 59th best amateur player. His many other accomplishments as an amateur include a first place tie at the 2006 U.S. Amateur local qualifier and winning the 2006 Wisconsin State Amateur Tournament.
At Watertown Luther Prep, Woltman was a two-time AJGA Rolex Junior All-American and finished as the runner-up in the 2003 and 2004 WIAA State High School Championships. He had seven top-10 finishes in AJGA events and was named the Wisconsin PGA Junior Player of the Year in 2003.
The Badgers begin this season next Monday when they travel to Pinehurst, N.C. to compete in the Mid Pines Intercollegiate.
