No. 25 UW Looks to Do Damage in Memphis
October 07, 2007 | Men's Golf
The UW men's golf team that has ascended to No. 25 in the nation in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin team rankings will compete in the two-day Memphis Intercollegiate starting Oct. 8. The competition will be held in Memphis, Tenn., at Colonial Country Club.
Having been placed as one of the top 25 teams in the country, the Badgers will look to prove worthy of their high ranking.
"We're definitely moving in the right direction right now," assistant coach Brian Brodell said. "October is going to be a big month for us. I think these kids know it and will step up their play."
UW also boasts two student-athletes in the Golfweek/Sagarin individual rankings on its roster.
Junior Dan Woltman (Beaver Dam, Wis.) finds himself in the top 50 at No. 49 while fellow junior Danny Zimmerman (Verona, Wis.) is placed at No. 70.
Joining Woltman and Zimmerman as part of Wisconsin's five-man active roster on Monday are Tyler Obermueller (River Falls, Wis.), Jeff Kaiser (Onalaska, Wis.) and Jordan Elsen (Kenosha, Wis.).
The Badgers, who will be paired with Mississippi State and Southeastern Louisiana for the 36 holes on Monday, will also be competing in the tournament with Memphis, Louisiana-Lafayette, Arkansas State, Mississippi, Nebraska, Penn State, Rice, South Alabama, South Florida, Southern Mississippi, Tulsa and Xavier.
After finishing the last two competitions in a tie for second place, Wisconsin will attempt to break through this week and pull out a tournament victory.
"It's been a little disappointing, especially last week when we were so close, but overall, we are off to a good start,' Brodell said. 'We really seem to be coming together and realizing how important each shot is.'
UW tees off at 8 a.m. on Oct. 8 in Memphis, Tenn., at Colonial Country Club to compete in the Memphis Intercollegiate.
