Woltman Impressive in Long-Drive and Putting Events
November 18, 2007 | Men's Golf
One day before he participates in the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic, UW men's golf junior Dan Woltman competed in the Titleist Longest Drive Contest and PING Putting Contest, finishing sixth place in both events. The contests took place in El Paso, Texas at El Paso Country Club.
Before Woltman (Beaver Dam, Wis.) left for Texas, he stated, ''I don't think I have a chance in the long drive contest, but hopefully I can roll in a few putts and have an opportunity to win that competition.' As it turned out, Woltman performed well in both.
The Titleist Longest Drive Contest was played first. Woltman's powerful drive of 316 yards was good enough to place him sixth overall. Florida's Billy Horschel 329-yard stroke won him the title.
The PING Putting Contest was next. Putting up a score of 24 on a nine-hole putting course, Woltman tied for sixth place overall and was edged out by five others by just one stroke. Charlotte's Corey Nagy won the competition by edging out for other competitors in a playoff.
The Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic starts on Monday, Nov. 19, with two rounds of play and finishes with a final round on Tuesday, Nov. 20. The tournament will be played in El Paso, Texas, at El Paso Country Club.
