
Woltman Concludes Day One in Texas

UW men's golf junior Dan Woltman finished with a score of 149, seven-over par, in day one of the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic, played in El Paso, Texas, at El Paso Country Club.
The 67th-ranked Woltman (Beaver Dam, Wisc.) will attempt to improve his standing tomorrow. After two rounds of play on the 6,837-yard, par-71 course, the junior currently stands at 27th place out of the 28 participants. Woltman will have one more round of golf tomorrow to try and move up the leaderboard, with tee-time set at 8 a.m.
Woltman played well in today's first round, finishing with a score of 72, just one-over par, but was less successful in the second round, shooting six-over with a 77.
San Diego State's senior Aaron Goldberg currently leads all competitors. Goldberg used consistent play to shoot a 66 in the first round and a 67 in the second, placing him at 133 and nine-under par.
Wake Forest's senior Webb Simpson made headlines early in the day, tying the course and tournament record with a first round 62. The 25th-ranked Simpson cooled off a bit in the second round, shooting a 72, to fall one stroke behind Goldberg. Heading into tomorrow's final round, Simpson finds himself in a tie for second place with Oklahoma State's No. 75 Trent Leon.
