Woltman Uses Great Day to Place 21st in Texas
November 20, 2007 | Men's Golf
UW men's golfer Dan Woltman played a spectacular final round in the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic to move up the leaderboard and finish in a tie for 21st place. The event, annually ranked as the premier individual stroke play event on the collegiate level, was held in El Paso, Texas, at El Paso Country Club.
After struggling yesterday in the first two rounds of competition, the 67th-ranked Woltman (Beaver Dam, Wis.) positioned himself in 27th place out of the 28 elite competitors. The junior, however, shot back with a 66 today in the final round on the 6,837-yard, par-71 course. Woltman's great day pushed his standing up to a tie for 21st place, finishing at two-over par with a score of 215.
Woltman's 66 in round three was tied for the second best score on the day.
Webb Simpson's 64 was the best. The Wake Forest senior finished with a 198, 15-under par, to win the event by a three-stroke margin.
On Monday, Simpson tied the course and tournament record with a first round 62. Simpson 's 72 in round two allowed San Diego State's Aaron Goldberg to claim a one-stroke lead after day one. Unfortunately for Goldberg, his 68 today dropped him back to a second place finish.

With fall competition now over, Woltman will now join the rest of his teammates in anticipation for a promising 2008 spring campaign.
