Softball Team Awards Announced

Eden Brock was chosen as the Most Valuable Player for the 2007 Wisconsin softball team, the coaching staff announced today.
Brock, a senior on the softball team, is the third pitcher in Badger history to record 500 career strikeouts and holds the number three spot on Wisconsin's list for career ERA (2.55), strikeouts (520) and shutouts (13). Her walks allowed ratio (1.24 BB/7 IP) is the best in school history and has the second best winning percentage (65-50, .565) of any Badger pitcher.
The Wakulla County, Fla. native led the Badgers in ERA (2.12), strikeouts (173), innings pitched (162) and complete games (10). She struck out a career-high 14 batters against Morehead State (3/2) and then did it again against Kent State (318). In her six appearances in Florida, Brock went 3-0 with an ERA of 0.51 and had 34 Ks in 27.2 innings. Brock averaged 7.48 strikeouts per game and didn't allow a triple all season.
Senior Sam Polito earned the Best Offense award. Polito is Wisconsin's all-time leading scorer (138 runs), started all 203 games in her four-year career and tied the program record for career hits with 203. In the 2007 season, she hit .377 with 12 RBIs and 39 runs scored which tied the school record for runs scored in a season. The Stevens Point native led the team in batting average, runs, hits (57) and on-base percentage (.440). Polito set program records for runs per game (.83) and hits per game (1.21). She hit .560 (28-50) and scored 17 runs during a school-record 16-game hitting streak from April 1-24.
Junior catcher Joey Daniels was selected as the winner for the Best Defense award. During the 2007 season, Daniels had the best fielding percentage on the team with .991 and threw out 18 would-be base stealers. The Oakley, Calif. native started all 47 games at catcher and hit .300 with five home runs, 22 RBIs and 34 runs. She hit .364 with runners in scoring position, and currently ranks first in on-base percentage (.411), ninth in doubles (20) and RBI (63) and 12 in runs scored (65) on Wisconsin's career leaders list.
Senior outfielder Stephanie Chinn won the Coaches' award. In the 2007 season, Chinn appeared in 33 games and started 11 of them as the designated player and nine of them in left field. The San Ramon, Calif. native tied a Badger record by scoring four times against Northern Colorado (2/23). She went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in a double header against Iowa (4/8). Chin finished the season with a batting average of .176 with five RBIs and nine runs scored.
