Two new members have been added to the Wisconsin softball coaching staff, head coach Chandelle Schulte announced today.
Kim Martin has been hired as an assistant softball coach and Rachel Kraus is the new volunteer assistant coach for the Badgers.
'Kim is an incredible addition to our staff,' said Coach Schulte. 'I can't wait to step on the field with her and am confident that the pitching and catching staff will benefit immensely from her experience.'
Martin's main duties will include assisting the pitchers and catchers and helping with recruiting.
Last year, Martin served as the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) Akron Racers' assistant and pitching coach. She worked with Alicia Hollowell and Jamee Juarez to guide the Racers to a second place finish in the NPF standings.
Prior to Akron, she was the assistant softball coach at Marshall University from 2005-07. Martin helped coach the team to a MAC regular season championship and helped Marshall transition from the MAC to Conference USA where the Thundering Herd took second place in the conference.
The Ontario, Canada native attended Shawnee State University, graduating in 1997 with a degree in Sports Management. She competed for the Bears in 1994-97 as a pitcher and was a four-time All-American and four-time conference player of the year. Martin was named National Player of the Year in 1996 and 1996 National Tournament MVP and her name appears on the National Record list more than 50 times. She earned her Masters degree in Athletic Administration from Ohio University in 2000.
Martin, who's maiden name is White, recently married husband Rob in June.
Kraus graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Akron in August 2007, with a degree in psychology. While attending Akron, she played four years as a middle infielder and was named NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete as a freshman.
The Akron, Ohio native plans to attend grad school in the future to pursue a Master 's degree in the field of Sports Psychology. Kraus will serve as the Director of Camps and Clinics and assist with on-field activities on game days.
