Badgers take double-header against Heartland

The Wisconsin softball team closed out its fall season on Thursday with a double-header against the visiting Heartland Community College. The Badgers won both games, edging the Hawks 3-2 in the opener and 12-5 in game two.
In the first game, the Hawks came out strong scoring two runs in the second inning, but the Badgers fought back bringing in three runs in the third, the eventual game-winner. Freshman athid=7382&deptid=126"> --> Jordan Skinner and seniors athid=5728&deptid=126"> --> Theresa Boruta and athid=5726&deptid=126"> --> Valyncia Raphael scored the three runs for the home team. Boruta led the team with two hits and athid=6646&deptid=126"> --> Livi Abney chipped in two RBI's.
athid=5725&deptid=126"> --> Leah Vanevenhoven got the win with ten strikeouts and only four hits. Freshman Hannah Huebbe was the losing pitcher for Heartland.
Game No. 2 was a different story. The Badgers took control early on in the second game as they scored two runs in the first inning and nine runs in the second inning, including a three-run home run by Abney. UW tacked on another run in the sixth to close out the game.
Leading the Badgers in game two were Boruta with two runs, three hits, and one RBI; Abney, with two runs, two hits, and three RBI's; Krueger with three runs, two hits, and one RBI, and athid=5241&deptid=126"> --> Alexis Garcia with one run, one hit, and three RBI's.
The winning pitcher in game two was athid=6114&deptid=126"> --> Letty Olivarez who struck out three and didn't allow a run. athid=6663&deptid=126"> --> Kristyn Hansen and athid=7384&deptid=126"> --> Eileen Garcia also got in to pitch two innings a piece.
The Badgers enter their winter training next, and won't return to the diamond until their season opener on Feb. 6, 2009 in Palm Springs, Calif.
