Bowl Practice No. 1
December 22, 2008 | Football
Welcome to Orlando Badger Fans! The Badgers and staff arrived in Orlando Monday afternoon and without hesitation headed right to practice. The team is practicing on a field right across the street from the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium, this makes it easy to use the spacious locker rooms, and store all the gear.
For those of you that don't remember the practice reports here on UWBadgers.com from fall camp, each day Brian Lucas and Rudy Nigl will bring fans inside the team's practice with an in-depth look at the day's work.
Breakdown: Monday's practice was 12 periods long (5 minutes per period) under sunny skies, but a stiff breeze was present for most of practice making it a little chilly (I know, it's not bad at all compared to Madison right now). The players were in their spiders (small shoulder pads) and helmets for the first day of work.
Play of the Day (Offense): athid=6725&deptid=111"> --> John Clay powered through the scout defense for a couple nice touchdown runs.
Play of the Day (Defense): Safety athid=6080&deptid=111"> --> Jay Valai was all over the field breaking up passes against the scout offense.
First Timers: For all the freshmen, this trip marks their first bowl experience. After climbing aboard the gigantic plane and receiving first-class treatment from everyone, their eyes finally relaxed and were enjoying every minute of the trip (not to say the older guys didn't enjoy it just as much).
Overheard: 'I thought it was supposed to be hot down here'' ' Collection of players commenting on the rather chilly evening in Orlando even after leaving Madison Monday morning with temps below zero.
Specials: Special teams coach (also the Head Coach), staffid=559"> --> Bret Bielem a spent roughly four periods Monday with the punt, punt return, kick and kick return units working on their keys for the game against Florida State.
Up Next: Tuesday the Badgers will practice in pads and go for about two hours. Coach Bielema and offensive players will meet with the media as well so look for some updates on some individual players and the team as a whole from Coach Bielema.
